In 1979, Jimmy Carter, in a visionary move, installed solar panels on the roof of the White House. This symbolic installation was taken down in 1986 during the Reagan presidency. In 1991, Unity College, an environmentally-minded centre of learning in Maine acquired the panels and later installed them on their cafeteria roof.
In «A Road not Taken», Swiss artists Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller travel back in time and, following the route the solar panels took, interview those involved in the decisions regarding these panels as well as those involved in the oil crisis of the time. They also look closely at the way this initial installation presaged our own era.

Month of Performance Art Berlin

Logo-MPA

During the Month of Performance Art Berlin (http://www.mpa-b.org)
Substitut hosts the following Performances:

1st May 12h-20h
888
8 hours labour. 8 hours recreation. 8 hours rest.

888

Performances by Mio Chareteau, Jeanne Gillard and Nicolas Rivet, Zosia Kwasieborska and Georg Keller
The project 888 tries to translate ambiguous work symptoms through different performative pieces.
The performance DAY-N by Mio Chareteau replaces the cadence of time with a scansion that corresponds to its rhythm. The passing of seconds, usually orchestrated for the mechanical hand, is here enumerated aloud. The setup Appendices by Jeanne Gillard and Nicolas Rivet supplies the lighting of the exhibition space by harvesting the driving force of several pedal-boards placed in local annexes of the main exhibition building – thus sketching out an invisible parallel workforce. Above the norm by Zosia Kwasieborska and Georg Keller is a readoption of the Stakhanovite movement to our age. The Stakhanovite movement was in eastern Europe during the communism a honoring for leading workers, to walk in front of the 1st May parade.

4th May 18h-22h
Ich kenne keine Vögel
Ein Abend mit Beide Messies.

messies
